See below: Epidural steroid injections are not indicated for the treatment of mechanical lower back pain. They may be use in a selected fashion for injection near a nerve root to reduce nerve root irritation associated with radicular pain such as numbness and tingling. This is a conservative management to try to avoid operative intervention. An evaluation by an orthopedics surgeon and the management of mechanical lower back pain and treatment recommendations would be recommended.

ESI : Epidurals used in pain management may eliminate or bring your pain down to a tolerable level. This in turn tends to improve function and quality of life. They are not a cure, may not bring about the expected result or may work for a shorter interval than anticipated. Epidurals injections have risks like all other surgical procedures. Serious risks are possible, but rare.
