Sometimes: Talk to your endocrinologist about diet and exercise. There is no other magic cure. There is no known way to stop the slow destruction of Insulin producing islet cells in the pancreas. After a few years people with diet and exercise controlled dm2 need pills, and eventually insulin.

Depends: Depends on how out of control your diabetes is. In general, the more weight and more active you are, the better your glucose control will be. If you are serious about improving diabetes, try your hardest at watching what you eat and your portion size, as well as increase your activity level and you will be surprise how good your numbers will be at the next check up. Good luck.
