Yes: The ear drum is somewhat like a frosty window & objects behind it are visible but blurry.A pus level is evident as is an inflammation of the eardrum itself.

Not exactly : They can see the ear drum with the middle ear behind it and see if the ear drum is red and if is bulging and if there is fluid behind it.
