This can vary: This depends on whether you have any underlying liver, stomach or kidney issues. If not, you can be on this as long as needed if no side effects which can be minimized by taking with food & using Prilosec otc daily. This should be monitored with blood testing 3-4 x a year to rule out any blood loss or liver/kidney changes. Rare cardiac risks over time as well .Cannot be on certain blood thinners.
