A member asked:

I took my first day dose of methylprednisolone (all 6 pills at once, dr said i could) at 9am and have had a rapid heartbeat, that i'm very aware of. don't want to continue dosing but is it safe to stop? was prescribed them for sciatica?

That dose can accelerate your heart rate but it is usually a nuisance rather than anything serious. It may also impair your night's sleep. I tell my patients to take a benadryl capsule at bedtime to help them sleep. Avoiding caffeine, chocolate and alcohol is helpful. Notify your prescribing physician if you're unable to tolerate the medication. It's safe to stop.
