Need exam: Just because it is night or day doesnt tell exactly what's wrong how about getting an exam to see where the pain is ? Obviously if you are tender over the trochanteric bursa - then that's probably the source of your pain. If your back is tender or you have radicular symptoms, then that would need the appropriate treatment for the problem.
