How does he look?: Sometimes it is not entirely on what the thermometer reads, but how the child looks. Start with cooling down the body, take extra clothing off, give him a bath with tepid water for about 20 minutes and give him cool drinks or popsicles. Depending on what the temp is give him Ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Keep in mind, a bit of temp with a viral illness is the way your body gets rid of the infection.

Focus on the kid: Many times the temperature is irrelevant in an illness. It is not a true gauge of how sick a kid is.If a kid is lethargic, unable to keep up with his fluid needs or spooks you, you need to go in at any temp level.A kid that is playful but slows a little when hot is handling the illness ok.Ibuprofen is my preferred med & chilled fluids & a cool cloth on the forehead.Your pcp is a better source of cr.
