When imaging does not reveal a cause for bone pain, what is the next step?

Orthopedist?: You should be referred to an orthopedic surgeon who might be able to localize the pain. They may do further tests such as an MRI or ct scan to lean more about the problem.

Not bone pain?: If a bone scan was done using isotope scanning in nuclear medicine, then it is unlikely that the pain is from a bone. Soft tissues around a bone can be a source of pain that may be attributed to the bone. If the bone scan is negative, than it is time to search for a cause outside of the bone in the adjacent joint or soft tissues next to the pain. More importantly, no test is 100% accurate.

Which bone?: Did you suffer any injury? When does it hurt? Can you describe the pain? If you can answer these questions perhaps we can assist....
