Possibly.: If an open-ended vasectomy is performed, it stands to reason that a longer gap between the cut ends of the vas deferens could possibly decrease the risk of failure by recanalization. However, this has not been systematically studied, so there is no data to support this practice. Current evidence suggests that superior results can be achieved by intraluminal cauterization.
