Older: "pain pumps" are probably most appropriate for older patients with excruciating centralized spinal pain. I would not see this as a long-term solution for more than 5 years at the most although it might be possible. Medication management along with conservative, infrequent interventional treatment would seem more advisable.

No age range: Pain pumps are an intervention used to treat chronic intractable pain. The use of this treatment is not associated with an age range but reserved for patients that have not responded to conservative measures .It is important that appropriate candidates are carefully selected and they perform their due diligence before having the device implanted, for there is risk and potential complication.
