Hypodense area: A lesion (an abnormal-looking area where disease is suspected to be) on a ct scan, which is more black than the surrounding tissues, is called hypodense. Hypodense means less dense (it has a less mass per amount of volume). For example, a hypodense area in the liver may be a benign lesion, a hemangioma , a simple hepatic cyst, an abscess, a lipoma, a malignant cancerous lesion, etc...
