Corticosteroids: The mainstay of treatment for sarcoidosis is steroids - such as prednisone. Side effects of high dose Prednisone include elevation of blood sugar, and sometimes euphoria. Longer term treatment with high doses causes the characteristic "moon face", acne, high blood sugar, and osteoporosis. There are case reports of successful treatment (not cure) with Adalimumab (humira) a monoclonal antibody.
