Yes, but...: A culture can be done before, during, and/or after being on antibiotics. The issue is whether or not the information is helpful. While on antibiotics, if an infection doesn't seem to be clearing, a culture may be helpful in looking for resistant bacteria in the infected area. The doctor may get a culture to help figure out why the infection is slow to resolve, or is worsening despite antibiotics.
