Are naps good for you?

They can be: Naps can go a long way to improving your health if your lifestyle & schedule interferes with getting enough restorative sleep. Those recovering from an illness, or relaxing after prolonged exertion need extra rest. Growing teens may need an extra hour or 2 /night. Beyond these situations, a healthy adult getting 8 hours/night likely gains little.

Are naps healthy?: While some studies may suggest that a short nap during the day is beneficial, sleep hygiene recommendations argue against naps as they disrupt our normal 24-hour sleep wake cycle. Better to get higher quality sleep of good duration at night.
