Healthy diet: A large study (diabetes prevention program) has shown that a 7% weight loss along with 30 min of moderate exercise 5 days a week can significantly decrease your chance of progressing to diabetes. As you are currently "overweight, " the best diet is one that contains 1 serving of fruit, grain, vegetables, protein and dairy product with each meal. For more information, go to choosemyplate.Gov.

Low carb: Start reading nutrition labels. It may seem complicated, but once you figure it out, you can easily identify foods that are lower in carbohydrates. If you don't know what a carbohydrate is, start doing some research. It's not easy learning all this stuff, and it takes time. So be patient and empower yourself with knowledge to improve your health!
