When doctors check your bone marrow for infection do they look at it under a microscope?

Yes.: Work up of possible infection of bone, called osteomyelitis, can be done by looking at the bone marrow under the microscope to see if bacteria is there, placing bits of the marrow on agar plates to see if any bacteria can be cultured (grown), getting plain x-rays, getting a bone scan, and checking the blood for infection including doing asedimentation rate and c-reactive protein test.

Not : Usually unless there is a bone biopsy.
