A member asked:

3 year old rapid breathing with 103 fever, sore throat, headache. is the rapid breathing normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Needs evaluation: If a child with fever is breathing rapidly it can be related to fever and increased body demand from an infection, but this is one that deserves emergent evaluation now as a small child has very little reserve and can tire quickly from rapid breathing. Medication to reduce fever may help while getting child to emergency room. Other factors can influence decisions here but *better safe than sorry.
