Buried or recycled.: If a person is buried, the implant(s) are buried with them. If they are cremated, the metal is recycled. Cremation rates have increased from 5% to 30% in this country. Implants are not destroyed by the 1800 degree heat. The metal is collected and recycled. Artificial limbs may be buried with the patient or donated for refurbishing and recycling.
