Courage: This unwanted behavior may be hard-wired into the brain but is usually manageable. A different medication might prove extremely helpful, cognitive-behavioral therapy that focuses on present patterns of thought rather than the past is almost certain to help, and a substitute (nail-clippers?) can divert this. The key is wanting to change; there are great support groups online. Good luck.

Not a good combo!: Taking 300mg of ranitidine (h2-blocker), with zyrtec (cetirizine) 10mg (h1-blocker) will almost certainly stop your problem. I cannot fanthom the combination you where placed on!

Dermatophagia: Dermatophagia (compulsive picking at & biting one's skin or nails) is related to ocd. It can be very debilitating. Anafranil (clomipramine) is an older antidepressant with strong anti-ocd activity. It can also bring sedation and other side effects. Perhaps the initial dose was too strong for you, and adjustments are needed.. I hope you'll talk with your doctor about this -- and consider cognitive therapy also.
