Keep it clean!: Assuming this is a dog bite, a broad spectrum antibiotic like Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) (if no pcn allergy) is the drug of choice for infection along with daily and gentle cleansing of the wound. I dont like topical steroids, and would only use topical rx ointment like bactroban. The wound may have to be irrigated and debrided, and possibly closed, if really bad.

Apply ice: And monitor the wound closely for any changes. Try to avoid any shoes that will press on the area.
