Diet?meds?: Consistency of bm's is largely a product of what you eat, plus some meds may interfere as well. A diet high in fiber bulks up the stools, but also needs plenty of water to create the right effect. Laxatives may help to push it out faster, but can cause cramps. Review your meds for possible constipating side-effects (many have this listed), and ask your doc what to do if simple things don't work.

Fiber and water: You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods.
