A member asked:

Is it true all autistic children do not make eye when you are speaking to them?

Not necessarily: Autistic children have problems with social interaction and understanding of usual social skills. They often stare at people and objects almost too much, but may not look when being talked to or when trying to talk. Part of behavioral therapy is to help them understand how to use looking and attention in a more appropriate manner.

Spontaneous eye : Contact is diminished or absent; with therapy, eye contact may be elicited. Researchers at uw are measuring the amount of eye contact in siblings of children with autism, as they have increased risk of autism or language disorders. Face recognition is a known deficit in autism. A neurotypical 1-yr.-old looks at his parent's face to check if they approve of what he's about to do.
