In speaking with my psychiatrist and she has told me that she believes that i am on the autism spectrum. i asked my pcp about an official diagnosis and help but my pcp said there isn't anything that can be offered as an adult. is that true?

There is always help if you know the right person that could help. You are your best help, read about autism spectrum disease and cognitive behavior therapy. The most important thing is to find somebody that could help you understand based on history that you have and cooperating with your help to get better.

If you want a label your psychiatrist is as good as anyone to create one. ASD is more a creation of the special services divisions of schools/training institutions that found more educational funds directed their way for kids with such a label. It is an umbrella covering several ill-defined issues. A label will not change your needs/therapy but may be a way to move forward.
