Osteoporosis: If you have osteoporosis and a fracture that was repaired with a plate, it is usually not necessary to remove the plate unless it starts to cause a problem. The bone heals around the plate, and removing the plate may cause weakening of the bone. Talk to your orthopedist for specific advice regarding your situation.
