Does sciatica cause incontinence?

No, but: Sciatica is pain in the distribution of the sciatic nerve which is the back of the buttock and the thigh. It does not include incontinence by this definition. But, causes of sciatica include causes that interfere with the function of lower spinal cord nerves and some of these causes of sciatica could conceivably cause incontinence.

It may be associated: Sciatica means pain traveling from your back and buttock down into your foot. It can be caused when a spinal nerve is squeezed by a disc or when the nerve is squeezed by a muscle in your pelvis. Rarely the nerves being squeezed also operate your sphincters. If you have sciatica and are incontinent you must be evaluated now to make sure you do not have cauda equina syndrome, a surgical emergency.

Possibly: If sciatica is causing incontinence, you need this evaluated as it could suggest a more severe compression of nerves. if this does not resolve soon, see a spine evaluation .
