Depends: Routine mammograms at your age are not necessary with very rare exceptions. If you have a breast mass, your doc might order a mammogram to look for other problems, but mammograms are not good for evaluation breast lumps. Read that again. Unless you have a terrible family history doing a monthly self breast exam after your menstrual cycle is more than enough at your age.

Not until 40 yo: Most professional societies recommend starting annual mammograms at age 40. However, if you have a family history of breast cancer, see a physician because you may be started earlier if you meet criteria.

Not at all, unless..: If you are a BRCA carrier or have other strong risks, I t may be appropriate for you to begin screening soon. If you have a lump or other symptom, see your doctor, ultrasound would be the first imaging test of choice in your age group. Otherwise, the American College of Radiology, American Cancer Society, and others recommend screening starting at age 40.
