Usually not pain: Most people do not have pain - they might have discomfort. Look online for peoples recommendations about a particular mammogram center and choose one based on that or personal recommendations from friends or family.

Accredited unit: Most mammograms are almost painfree or associated with little discomfort. Some people experience more pain. Use a mammography service that has accreditation. Some services offer a soft pad on the machine which makes it slightly more comfortable. Talk to the technician before the procedure and alert her/him of your pain threshold..

Mammogram: All mammograms require breast compression, so there may be some discomfort for a few seconds, but it shouldn't be painful. Some facilities use disposable pads to try and minimize discomfort.
