Depressed & pregnant: If you're experiencing depression at 6 months, yes you could be at greater risk for post-partum depression. I hope you're working with a therapist now, as this is one safe way to help depression without exposing your baby to medications. If this isn't effective, you can also see a psychiatrist because antidepressants are safer now than earlier in your pregnancy. Please talk with your OB too.

Yes: Yes, prior depression is the single most significant risk factor for ppd. In addition to general steps (support, diet, no alcohol) an important consideration is ongoing anti-depressant medication. Most obs and psychiatrists find that properly chosen antidepressants are safer than the PPD itself. (research is equivocal b/c not enough data). Consult with your psychiatrist and ob. Best to you both!
