A 25-year-old member asked:

how do i know if i've passed a kidney stone without another ct scan?

Capture it: Hopefully, you were screening your urine and caught the stone. If the scan showed a 3 mm stone and you captured a 3mm stone, that is good enough. You should be pain free and a check of your urine from your doctor should show that the blood has cleared.

you can also get a followup kidney ultrasound or KUB x-ray to determine if the swelling in the kidney has resolved.

Strain urine: Urinate through a strainer to catch the kidney stone when it passes from your bladder and through your urethra.

Yes: There are many types of kidney disease, and many ranges of severity. Your nephrologist is crucial in getting your renal function stable, and your medications should be reviewed by your obstetrician. If you've had a kidney transplant, experts recommend waiting at least one to two years (depending on donor) before attempting pregnancy. Unfortunately, pregnancy is very rare in dialysis patients.

Slow Onset: Chronic kidney disease comes on slowly over a long time. Your body is able to adjust and "get used to" the change. In acute disease, the onset is very fast, no time to adjust and you would feel very ill. Either kind can lead to kidney failure, and eventual dialysis or transplant.

No: Chronic kidney disease occurs predominantly from diabetes or hypertension over a period of months to years. Unfortunately, this damage is irreversible.
