Think relief.: If you did not get relief from a first epidural injection for pain relief, do not have another. It is extremely unlikely a second one will help. If the epidural was helpful, then a repeat is reasonable. However the time frame for repeat is quite variable. Often relief lasts only a few days to weeks. There is no guarantee relief will last 3 months. Wait until pain relief has ended before the next.

Not necessarily..: The success rate of epidural steroid injections may improve with successive, and individually timed, procedures. A three week window may be fine (2-4 weeks is recommended). Your anesthesiologist (or physiatrist) would wish to hear of any concerns. Second opinions are also appropriate and welcomed by most mds!

Yes: Yes the epidural injection helps most people with documented herniations that are the source of there sciatica type pain. That said the question is how long will you get relief for and there is no real good answer for that. Some people can get relief for months and others it can be days/weeks. We notice most people get relief for a longer time if at least 2 injections are planned.
