Bone spurs: There are relatively few doctors whose initial management plan for painful bone spurs would be just pain medication. Ideally the doctor should get to the cause of the problem (usually excessive weight bearing). A steroid shot may help; in a few cases, surgery will help. Pain medications (other than motrin) are not an answer but can be used as a last resort.
