Laparoscopic surgery: Also called minimally invasive surgery, usually three or four small incisions are made in the abdominal wall, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in length. Then a small tube is inserted into each incision and the abdomen in inflated to allow space to see the inside of the abdomen with a camera, mounted on one of the tubes. The cecum is removed and intestine reconnected with specially designed staplers.
