A member asked:

How long are you numb after a discectomy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: This is variable. Even though pain relief is achieved after decompressing the nerves by removing disc material, sometimes the nerve takes time to recover, if at all & the recovery could be partial or total from immediately to never. Most are going to get maximum recovery in 6 months but it could occur over years. Less likely if a neuropathy present or if a diabetic.
