Not necessarily: Cervical discectomy is most commonly performed for pain refractory to nonoperative treatment. However, neurologic symptoms are also common. If numbness(medical term is paresthesias), or tingling was present prior to the operation, it may persist indefinitely. If the paresthesias are in the same distribution as the preoperative pain, it may represent residual from the initial problem.
