How long are you numb for after having a discectomy?

It depends: It may take week or few month, it may stay permanent, that depends on the severity of the injury of the nerve and how long been pressure by the disc. Some changes of the nerve structure are revisable some are not?

Long: Numbness may take a long time to resolve, if ever. Some people continue to have some residual numbness that never completely goes away.

Depends: This is variable. Even though pain relief is achieved after decompressing the nerves by removing disc material, sometimes the nerve takes time to recover, if at all & the recovery could be partial or total from immediately to never. Most are going to get maximum recovery in 6 months but it could occur over years. Less likely if a neuropathy present or if a diabetic.
