What can cause neck muscle imbalance?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Common: Neck muscle imbalance is quite common and often seen in people who spent most of their days sitting. Typically the posterior muscles become stretched and weak and the muscles in front (anterior) become short and tight. Rebalancing them is worthwhile. This can be done with a physical therapist and by doing exercises at home. I like yoga for this type of work as well.
