Ergonomics?: Well, there could be numerous causes, from recent or remote trauma, stress, & so forth. A common overuse neck injury problem is pain and spasm from working for long periods at a computer where the screen is too low forcing prolonged neck flexion. Several ideas: Stiffness and muscle spasm in your neck and shoulder girdle can be due to various causes such as: stress causing you to tense up your neck/shoulder muscles; unhealthy position of neck/head when sleeping; carrying heavy back pack or shoulder bag and occasionally a pinched nerve in the neck can cause pain and stiffness.
