Yes: Again this is one of last resort. Some patients can have this done if the rest of the bone stock is good, if not i would recommend fusion of the ankle.

Depends: Whether or not to get an ankle replacement is dependent on a number of different factors. If you have posttraumatic arthritis it is important to make sure that the fracture that you sustained is completely healed before you contemplate an ankle replacement. You should talk this over extensively with your orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon. Please visit www.Orthodoc.Aaos.Org/footankle.

Evaluation : Ankle replacements require a very thorough workup and are only appropriate for a select group of patients. Having a shattered ankle alone isn't enough information and ankle replacement is not a first line treatment for this condition.

Eventually maybe: Assuming you just got a shattered ankle you need to first have that treated primarily as best as the surgeons can put it together. If after time and rehab you still have a painful ankle that inhibits your activity your options are an anle fusion or a replacement. If you have some motion, no neuro deficit or infection you can consider a replacement. Due to your age you may outlive the replacement.
