Splenic Trauma: The spleen is an easily traumatized organ in the abdomen. An injury to the spleen can be quite problematic. Most trauma surgeons would recommend avoiding excessive physical activity for about 4-6 weeks after a splenic injury. Any excessive activity such as contact sports, etc can cause re-bleeding of the spleen, necessitating surgery to remove the spleen.
