A member asked:

Could removing tonsils have an effect on antigens/bacteria, and how they enter your body?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Your tonsils and adenoids serve as an immunological filter, sampling antigens (foreign substances-bacteria, viruses, allergens, etc) that enter the body via nose or mouth. They are really active in early childhood and help antibody production. Other tiny lymph nodes in the back of the throat that take over if the tonsils and/or adenoids need to be removed in case of infection or obstructive size.
