A member asked:

How long does it take to wake up from the anesthesia from a knee arthroscopy?

10 minutes: Usually about 10minutes. The anesthesiologist will wake you up after the operation (which is very short as well), and take you to the recovery room where you will recover for about 2-3 hours. You will be sleepy and groggy but will gradually wake up. It will take upto 48 hours for anesthetic agents to fully clear your body.

Depends: There are several choices for knee arthroscopy involving anesthesia. 1--sedation with the surgeon injecting local 2-regional where a spinal or epidural is used 3-general where either an airway such as a lma or endotracheal tube is used. The decision is between you, the anesthesiologist and the surgeon.

5 minutes: Patient's wake up very quickly after anesthesia. They will be groggy initially and then clear. Modern anesthetics are essentially removed from the body completely within 72 hours. The most common cause of symptoms after this period are the postoperative narcotics that a patient takes to control pain. I hope that this answers your question.
