Over the next month, similar cases were reported from hong kong, vietnam, singapore, and canada. The outbreak resulted in a total of 8096 cases with 774 deaths and a case-fatality rate of 9 to 12 percent.

No longer seen: Are you referring to sars? The last reported case was in 2003. Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) on the other hand is in fact quite common and as mentioned is usually found in every adult medical icu. The treatment is low lung volume ventilation and treating the underlying cause.

SARS and COVID: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome from SARS-Cov (virus) was present around 2003 & has not recurred. However, COVID 19 which is from SARS-CoV-2 is around now and unfortunately we are seeing a lot of it.
