Fetal age: Once the fetus approaches 20+ weeks gestation and is lost it is generally considered a "stillbirth" because a death certificate is required in some states.

Difference: A miscarriage is usually a pregnancy loss at less than 20 weeks. A stillbirth occurs with the death of a fetus before delivery beyond 20 weeks. Some states will classify a stillbirth on the basis of the weight of the fetus at delivery.
