How do you tell the difference between your period and a miscarriage?

Sometimes you can't : It is hard to know the difference between a heavy period a few days late and a miscarriage. That's why we often say that many women have early miscarriages without even knowing it. If you saw a doctor, she could detect a low pregnancy hormone level on a blood test that could differentiate the two.
