Depends on pain: A ganglion cyst is fluid filled sack which communicates with the wrist joint. It typically does not cause pain and only needs to be treated if symptomatic. When these cysts become painful or so large that they cause problems with motion or activities, they can be excised surgically. Drainage is rarely successful. See a board certified orthopaedic hand surgeon for evaluation and treatment.

Ganglion: Ganglions are not typically painful so first you need to make sure that the ganglion is the only or true source if your in pain. Underlying arthritis, old fracture or ligament injury shold be ruled out with an x-ray if you have pain. Once that occurs splinting, injection NSAID may help. If these fail and there is no underlying issue then you may want to seek an evaluation for excision.
