Have it removed: If your ganglion is causing a lot of discomfort, you should see a surgeon to have it removed. You can take a pain reliever such as tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen for some symptomatic relief, but the only full on solution is removal. Sometimes a ganglion can be aspirated effectively. The material in the cyst is really thick so it might not all come out however.

You can simply : Have it drained. The problem with this is there is a high reoccurrence rate. Excision with surgery would then be the best option. But, if pain is severe, a simple draining should relieve the pain at least temporarily.

Brace/nSAIDs/surgery: Ganglion cysts are outgrowths from the wrist joint. The cysts are usually not painful, but when them become large, they can push on the surround tissues and cause pain. Ice, splints and nsaid's are good initial treatments. See a board certified orthopaedic hand surgeon, if you remain symptomatic. You might need to have the cyst surgically removed, but there is a chance it might come back.
