Good question!: Twinning appears to have a genetic component that is expressed in women, but can be inherited from either parent! thus, a woman is at high risk of having twins if she has a family history of twins, while the family history of the biologic father appears to have little/no effect on his partner's risk of having twins. If he has a positive family history of twinning, he could pass it to his daughter.

Confused ??: Identical twins, which are rare, have the same genetic makeup and we assume stat out as one egg fertilized by one sperm. Fraternal twins start out as 2 eggs, fertilized by 2 separate sperm. In rare identical case, dad might have equal genetic influence, but she, not he released 2 eggs at once for the common fraternal twins. Mom genes dominate this arena.
