Unknown: The incidence of MZ twins is 4/1000 live births and is fairly constant around they world (identical twins). DZ twinning is associated with multiple ovulation and varies among populations. In the US the incidence is 12/1000 live births increasing by age from 3 to 14/1000 live birts age 20- 35. Inheritnce of a twinning tendency is uncertain.
