How effective is surgery for detached retina?

Pretty good: Depends on how long its been there, macula on or off. Getting back to 20/20 is not that common, but getting decent vision is pretty common these days.

It depends: The longer the retina has been detached, the poorer the surgical outcomes. Generally speaking, greater than 90% of retinal detachnments can be repaired with one operation.
