A member asked:

If you take methadone for a long time does it effect the bones.?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It can.: There is some evidence to suggest that especially for men, long term Methadone can decrease bone density (which could put you at risk for fractures). The mechanism probably involves lowered testosterone levels in people taking methadone. So in addition to the yearly ekg for people on methadone, i'd also discuss calcium and vitamin d supplementation with your doc. Hope this helps!
